Contractor Fraud on the Rise, and Why Researching Contractors Will Save You.

When Summer is underway more homeowners decide to undergo home improvement projects. As you start to search for Contractor’s to hire, it’s important to know who they are and what kind of credentials they offer. Neglecting to do so can result in costly fines, mistakes, and even lawsuits.

Take this example, where contractors took advantage of homeowners after Hurricane Sandy. There is no situation too difficult to be taken advantage of.

Other times, Contractors neglect to enforce proper business practices. By employing contractors who fail to meet proper compliance laws, you put yourself at risk to their issues, and should something go wrong you lose many of the usual resources for resolving issues.

Finally, we are seeing an increase in contractor fraud. Many are acting in place of other more well-known companies, and homeowners are finding that the contractor who did their work was never actually legally operating at all.

All of these situations are easily avoided by researching and ensuring your contractor’s have the proper licensing and documentation, prior to hiring them to do work on your home.

Whatever your situation, taking the right precautions beforehand will give you the best outcome available. Don’t take careless risks with who you hire, and always check them out prior to hiring them.
